Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, appeared on Fox News to discuss defunding the police, open border policies and illegal marijuana grows in the Antelope Valley.
Garcia spoke to Fox News Thursday about the illegal marijuana grow bust in which he participated in the Antelope Valley and touched on defunding the police and U.S. border policies.
“We fought back in a shining example of how government should work for the people,” Garcia said of the illegal marijuana grows in the high desert which he helped bust.
In June, Garcia along with local, state and federal law enforcement came together to launch the largest drug raid in L.A. County history.
Garcia stated that the successful raid is a prime example of how government should work.
“Over the course of 10 days, with the help of the DEA, multiple levels of government, and four counties, we ended up seizing about $1.2 billion of illegal marijuana grows, arrested some 33 individuals, 27 firearms confiscated and about 16 tons of marijuana which were consuming about 9 million gallons of water a day in a time when California is in the middle of one of our worst droughts,” Garcia said.
Garcia addressed the impact illegal marijuana grows are having on the environment, the safety of his constituents, and the legal cannabis industry in the State of California.
“This is damaging the wildlife, this is ruining the soil around us, it is obviously a massive threat to the local residents who are being threatened on a daily basis by [armed] cartel members,” Garcia said. “Illegal grows have a zero-cost basis product”’meanwhile the legal market has to pay 47 percent taxes and deal with California’s bureaucracy.”
The congressman went on to address how the situation at the southern border, calls to defund the police, and national policies catering to foreign adversaries are direct contributors to the national crime crisis.
“This administration is giving hope to the bad guys,” Garcia said. “Whether it is the cartels at our southern border, giving Russia a free pass for cyber-attacks, allowing Nord Stream to continue the pipeline, getting back into the Iran [nuclear] Deal, removing sanctions against Venezuela, going quiet while Cubans are struggling for their freedoms just 90 miles south of our southern border and then not holding China accountable when we have clear evidence that the virus was not only started, but developed, engineered and disseminated from Wuhan. We are seeing a 100 percent increase in major crime and murder rates throughout our nation. This is a direct result of these policies and defunding the police.”
