SOLON, Ohio —
Juvenile offense: US 422
At 1:40 a.m. March 17, an officer stopped a car for speeding, traveling 80 miles per hour on US 422. The driver, a Solon boy, 16, admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, but, after submitting to field sobriety tests, did not appear to be impaired.
Also in the car were five other boys — one who is 15, three, who are 16, and one, 17.
The driver admitted to being in possession of marijuana, and also had a THC vape pen, cigars, a grinder, and a rolling tray. Police charged the driver with possessing cigarettes as a minor, probationary license violations and speeding.
Charges of possessing marijuana while underage will be presented to the Cuyahoga County juvenile court for the other five boys, all of Solon.
The juveniles were all released to parents.
Obstructing official business: South Roundhead Drive
At 12:50 p.m. March 17, officers were dispatched to South Roundhead Drive on a report of a suspicious man walking through properties and looking in garbage cans.
Police spotted the man on Hambleton Drive. When officers tried to speak with him, the man became agitated and walked away. He refused to provide identification.
The man, 35, of Cleveland was found in possession of a piece of mail a resident reported was taken from his garbage container.
Police charged the suspect with obstructing official business.
Theft: Aurora Road
At 1:35 p.m. March 17, police were called to Smokeology, 33650 Aurora Road, where the business owner told officers he was talking with a man who he believed was stealing when the owner turned his back.
Video surveillance showed the man stealing prepackaged supplements from the counter when the owner turned away from him.
The suspect left with the stolen goods, driving away in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. An automated license plate reader read the license plate of the Ram, and led to the identification of the suspect, a Solon resident, 40.
Police contacted the suspect, who went to the police station and returned the goods. He was charged with theft.
Physical control: Bainbridge Road
At 5 p.m. March 17, a caller tipped police that a man was heading to a car in the lot of the Rollhouse entertainment center, 33185 Bainbridge Road, and that the man was drunk.
Police arrived to find the man sitting in his car’s driver’s seat holding his car keys. The man told officers, “I am intoxicated, but not driving.”
The man was unsteady on his feet. He refused to take field sobriety tests and, later, a breath test.
Police charged the man, 65, of South Euclid, with physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence.
Assault: Emerald Ridge Parkway
At 12:20 p.m. March 18, management at Solon Point of Emerald Ridge, 5626 Emerald Ridge Parkway, reported that, two days earlier, a resident, an 83-year-old woman told them that someone hit her in the arm and chest and took clothes from her.
Detectives are investigating.
Theft: Aurora Road
At 3:50 p.m. March 19, a loss prevention officer at Giant Eagle, 34310 Aurora Road, reported that he had detained a Bedford Heights man, 20, who was seen not scanning $610 worth of groceries while in a self-checkout aisle.
Police charged the man with theft and issued him a criminal trespass warning.
Receiving stolen property: Enterprise Parkway
At 8:55 p.m. March 20, a license plate reader alerted police that a stolen Jeep Cherokee was parked in the Longhorn Steakhouse lot, 6015 Enterprise Parkway. The vehicle was reported stolen by Richmond Heights police.
It had been rented from Enterprise Rent-a-Car and never returned.
Police went into the restaurant and located the driver, a Bedford woman, 25. She was arrested for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.
Assault: Copley Avenue
At 7:30 p.m. March 22, dispatch received a hang-up 911 call from a Copley Avenue home about a disturbance. When officers arrived at the home, they learned that a man had left the home with his girlfriend.
About an hour later, the man who made the call arrived at the police station and reported that he had been assaulted by his girlfriend. The man had a visible injury to his face.
Police called the woman and asked her to come to the station to present her side of the story. Although the 19-year-old told a different story, police arrested her for assault.
