NIXA, Mo. — The Nixa City Council is sending a proposal for a three percent sales tax on non-medical marijuana sales to Nixa voters for the April 2 election.
The ballot question is phrased as follows:
Shall the City of Nixa, Missouri, impose an additional sales tax of three percent (3%) on all tangible personal property retail sales of non-medical adult use marijuana sold within the City? Yes or No?
According to the City of Nixa, if the measure is approved, the revenue will contribute to the city’s general fund. The largest share of the revenue will go to the operation of the Nixa Police Department, and additional revenues will go to the Nixa Parks & Recreation Department and the Nixa Administrative Support Department expenditures.
The city council has not designated the revenues for any projects in particular, as the amount of revenue is not expected to be large enough to hire additional staff or build significant capital improvement projects.
