HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Activists will be gathering in Harrisburg on Monday afternoon to urge Pennsylvania lawmakers to take action to stop marijuana arrests.
The Grassroots Cannabis Organization NORML plans a silent demonstration during a state police budget hearing at 1 p.m. NORML stands for National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
The organization states that in 2022, there were nearly 12,000 arrests for less than 30 grams of cannabis across the commonwealth. They also say that’s equal to all other substance possession arrests combined.
At the governor’s budget address in February, he urged the state to pass legislation, legalizing cannabis in the Commonwealth.
Advocates with Pennsylvania’s NORML say two-thirds of people who live in Pennsylvania believe that possession of marijuana should not be a crime.
