West Buffalo Township, Pa. — Police arrested a California man after a traffic stop revealed he had 40 pounds of marijuana in the car.
Donovan James Ho, 34, of Temple City, was the car he was riding in was pulled over on Feb. 14 on Interstate 80 near mile marker 200. Trooper Gideon Green of PSP Milton smelled marijuana as soon as he made contact with the female driver and Ho, who was a passenger, according to the affidavit.
Green asked Ho, who had rented the Buick Envision, if he could search the car but Ho denied permission. Trooper Christopher Isbitski then arrived at the scene with K-9 dog Diego. At that point, Ho provided handwritten consent to a search and indicated there was 30 to 40 pounds of marijuana in the car, according to Green.
Police searched the car and found a black Pelican case, black duffle bag, and a brown duffle bag which all contained marijuana. In total, there were 53 packages of marijuana in the car, Green said.
Police filed a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance against Ho as well as misdemeanors of drug possession.
District Judge Jeffrey Mensch in Mifflinburg set bail at $100,000, which Ho posted after a bail hearing. Ho’s formal arraignment in Union County Court of Common Pleas is set for May 6.
