Hemp Concrete Walls (R30 + Fireproof) – You Won't Believe How They Built This House!
Check this out, Hemp construction! Hemp has been used in various forms of construction dating back to the Romans, in bridges, sails, ropes, and now more …
Matt, I love the fact that you show all these different new building techniques but I'm curious what is the cost relationship between them? Also, how do you find contractors for some of these? I helped some friends build a rammed Earth wall and it was extremely labor-intensive. Even getting the materials off his own land the construction costs were still high due to labor. I'm seventy years old and have been in construction my entire life. I thought I knew about everything there was about construction products until I found your channel. Seems as though I'm always finding something new that you have going on. I'm now retired and we are planning on moving to Arizona to build a house I am kind of interested in some of the ideas that you have shown but I have no idea how to find out more information about them or the cost benefits of using one over the other.
One problem you did not address is what to do about the biologicals that eat the hemp. For this reason, and several others, I think hard plastic chopped to about 1/16th inch would be better. Of course, there is always horse hair.
Insightful information explaining this product with such diverse applications and is sourced to endless regeneration with out having to harvest trees to produce material . Ultimate renewable building material with twice the effective negative carbon print being able to filter and sequester co2………great episode .
Environmental damage from taking out old growth forest from any country is bad so not actually seeing this as an option, but hemp fiber is a beautiful option for many uses.
Let me un-complicate it: a male plant and a female plant. The female plant is the drug plant. They use the male plant for these building blocks and material, for ship ropes, clothing, the fibers they twine around pluming connections, etc. ad infinitum.
Pine ridge Indian reservation.. 50 yrs ago tried to start this hemp brick blocks for homes and the US government went on their (sovereign) land and destroyed their crops so they couldn't harvest the hemp plants…not once but, twice and arrested them! Look up the history ✌️
People are racing to be stupid thinking they are "saving" "the" "planet". There's zero difference between this method/material and any other earth-made building blocks. Get a grip people. Do your fucking research.
I just watched this video and this hemp Cret sounds like it would be a great building material for homes in dry climate prone to wild fires. I hope that this product would be made available in Hawaii, as we just experienced the Lahaina fire in Maui, Hawaii which is now has passed the Paradise fire in California. A home that is more resilient to fire would be a great benefit for parts of Hawaii, where Leeward sides of islands that are drier than Windward facing thats trade and moisture. What about Hurricane proof?
So we want to remove C02 from the air. So Im curious, does anyone realize C02 is food for trees? No food, no trees. Having C02 in the air isn't a bad thing YOU MORE-ONS!!!!
It seems to me that would be more practical to press this material into the mould and create brakes on the factory floor. Possibly even make them so they hold onto each other like Lego blocks. I don’t see the benefits of casting this on site. Must be difficult to finish the top of walls as well.
I absolutely support this. I'm sure this would make great and cheap sound insulation for apartments!
How sound proof?
My question is how do these materials perform over a long period of time, say 50-60 years?

The relationship of industrial hemp to marijuana is about as close as wheat would be to oats. Same family but completely different products.
Both hemp and marijuana are strains of cannabis.
I love how the host is such a square lol. Hemp is marijuana. It's just the stuff you sell to parents like stems that dont get you high lol

Don't associated pot with hemp.its already got a stigma it doesn't deserve
How many tons of hempcrete were used for that build?
Environmental damage from taking out old growth forest from any country is bad so not actually seeing this as an option, but hemp fiber is a beautiful option for many uses.
Hey Matt Risinger! The Build Show needs to do a show on Tim White's Hondo project or one of the projects Tim is currently working on.
Only for the riches, way too labor intense to be affordable for any normal person.
Doesn't dustcrete have similar properties?

Except the pillars of wood will help catch the roof on fire.
Hemp is the weed version of non alcoholic beer.
How reasonable is the price??
cool
Frikkin awesome ❤
As in my country we dont need insulation so just using bricks is a cheaper, stronger and better option.
Hah if you walls are made out of hemp and it catches fire wouldn't you want to smoke it

Old Volkswagen beetles the staw fibrous padding in the seats was hemp.
I love this Japanese kominka take on it.

How about Hempbrick?
Can’t wait to smoke this house.
The labor cost alone must be through the roof!
That "huh" at 5:06

Arizona here. Our Biodome almost suffocated it's initial inhabitants because the concrete in it shed outgassed CO2 as it cured…for decades.
I am going to need more time to grok how throwing some cellulose and silica and trace minerals (hemp) into the mix changes that scenario.
Please.
