Hemp wool vs Sheep wool insulation | Everything you need to know
Hemp wool and sheep wool are considered to be the “greenest” or most sustainable insulation materials. In this video, we’re going to look at how they are made, …
Wool can breed moths if not treated. Moths and larva can live in the walls as the larva need the wool to eat and moths don’t need to fly to find a mate if they are massive amounts of them. Moth infestation is no good. I would tend towards hemp and not worry about the fire retardant. I want my home to breath but the one thing I don’t like about hemp is the use of plastics within the fibers. Im not sure why they do that except to hold the fibers together. Plastics off gas and are bad for the environment so if Hemp has plastics it is not biodegradable nor environmentally friendly. My vote is for Flax Tow or Hemp Tow Fibers made into batts. They could find better ways to hold the batts together. Similar to how they use felting needles for wool they could do a similar thing for hemp/flax batts.
"Sheep out number humans in New Zealand 6 to 1 so they better be treated well to prevent an uprising…" I had to stop the video for a minute to laugh! Well Done.
Heres an idea, permeate the hemp product with sodium bicarbonate, the sodium bicarbonate when heat is applied or burning is attempted will release carbon dioxide, making it fire resistant. It’s natural, and isn’t a toxic chemical
Maybe hemp is less resource intensive on paper, but wool will be produced regardless if it's used or not. We grow sheep for the meat and milk, and the wool and hide are left over. With the massive price drop in wool prices due to polyester, we have much wool going to waste now. Was this taken into account?
Also, sound insulation is a big win for me. Wool ftw! 😛
At 0.3% I can understand why hemp wool would not be efficient for getting you high through normal smoking. But if you inhaled large amounts of smoke, I'm betting it would. Like if I were to burn down a house insulated with hemp wool, then stand in the fire and breathe normally for 20 minutes or so, would that do the trick? Asking for a friend.
Excellent video also covering the environmental impact. (The rock wool/fibreglass video was also much better than on other channels.)
Coughing and mask topic: Yes … even if you are sanding wood you should wear a mask – even though it is a natural material. The small particles nevertheless are harmful. (Being unaware of this fact I sanded without any protection all my life ….)
mushroom should be greener than sheep wool. Sheep wool is not really green. Is it?? The sheep need space and feed and water and the wool has to be prepared and treated… Hemp is ok but aren't mushrooms supposed to be the best insulation??
Don't fool yourselves. The sheep wool industry is like any other business and they are there to make profits so those people who share the wool off those sheeps end up cutting many of them so it's not as humane as you would think.
Im sensitive to VOC’s (a lot of people are without knowing it) so for that reason i would still go with wool insulation, a fresh air intake and upgrading the furnace filter cabinet to a 4” thick media filter vs a 1” thick filter makes a world of difference to me
2:37 "Sheep uprising in New Zealand" 😂
nice joke about the sheep
Where do I get 2$ for square meter hemp insolation?
Here in Bulgaria it is more like 17$

I am somewhat attracted by that flamable weed insulation

Would be nice to know if hemp wool can be treated with lime and sand to make it in to hempcrete and if sheep wool can also be treated like that.
Sheep wool = animal cruelty!!!
Do you have a review on stone/mineral wool?

You blew it on the noise reduction. But, the honesty in the apologetic tone was endearing. It means ur not a liar.
Illustration of DENIM as an Insulator awaited

Smart chicks are hot!!!
What about noise reduction comparison?
10:27 I had this exact problem after recording my "cocaine vs. crack" video.
2:06 Hey! That's why I'm washed in warm water (periodically) too!

You get a like just for Mr. Mackey.
will using foreign hemp seeds for cultivation effects the soil condition ?

EXCELLENT! Thank-You very much for this video!!!
I'd wonder if someone handn't thought of merging the two products…

if the sheep wool is untreated, how do they prevent moths from nesting in it?
Hi does hemp insulation loose thermal properties in moist environment? thanks
Was there Poly fiber? polyester is flammable so it makes no sense to add polyester to such a sacred hemp fiber it seems oxymoron to me anyway.
So a fire retardant hemp wool would be the best for the bulk of an insulation project. Then use sheep wool around pipes and cables
mKay 😀

Can you please do a video on SGC Smartboard vs traditional drywall?
in b4 cheap ship of sheep …RISE UP !!
thanks for your work and content :3
I’ve never seen someone use a saw with such poise and grace
These eco materials has one problem…. pest like them a lot!
Maybe when hemp is grown more widely, the cost will go down. I don't like the wall the hemp burns.
I’ve heard that these insulations are susceptible to critters. Is this true?
what about a hybrid, sheep in the walls where there are pipes and wiring, and hemp in attic and wherever the walls have no electrical or pipes?
SO, ROCK WOOL is the best?
